About Us

LAKE QUIVIRA BEGAN IN 1922 AS A VISION AND DREAM OF ONE MAN, CHARLES GAULT...

His vision, "A lake of the finest water in this part of Kansas". With the dedication and determination of Victor Clark and William Drummond, Gault's dream became a reality with the completion of the physical features critical to the community then called Quivira; the Dam (June, 1929), the Clubhouse (September 1930), Crescent Beach (July 1930), and the Golf Course (nine holes, early summer 1930, with the completion of 18 holes in July 1931). Although the sale of lots boomed from 1928-1930, home construction did not. Slowly homes were built and the original homes were built in clusters.

By the 1950s, Quivira had evolved into a residential community with the golf course reserved for members only. In 1966, Quivira became a gated, private community. Then on July 12, 1971, by unanimous vote, the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners approved the incorporation of Lake Quivira as a third class city.

Today, Lake Quivira has 394 households with residents enjoying an abundant of amenities, the lifestyle, and the camaraderie of a family oriented community. However, you don't have to live in Lake Quivira to enrich your lifestyle. Non-residents can enjoy the same abundant amenities and be part of a family friendly community as a member of Lake Quivira Country Club.

Our Tradition

When Quivira was established in 1928, it was mostly as a vacation spot away from the bustle of the big town of Kansas City. By train or by car, residents arrived ready to enjoy the social scene, the golf, the lake. Since then, while the cottages have become year-round homes, the public beach and golf course have become private, and the passenger train is no longer needed, the people themselves haven't really changed – though their clothes certainly have.

Our Environment

The naturally beautiful surroundings create an incomparable haven and unique lifestyle experience unlike other communities in the area. "The lake, its beach, the clubhouse, the golf course, the homes, the rolling landscape - all lined and garnished by a profusion of various kinds of trees and shrubs. In Spring and Summer, it is a panorama of multitudinous shades of green. In Fall, it displays a riot of all colors of the rainbow. Even in the gaunt austerity of Winter, Man's structural artistry blends with the wonders of Nature to create a crystal radiance reflective of the foothills of the Alps."1

A sparkling, 224-acre spring water lake is considered the heart of the community by the majority of residents and club members. The lake water is supplied by hundreds of natural springs, many of which are now covered by the lake water, but which continue to flow into it and provide some of the finest quality of spring water.

The community's diverse architecture of the single family residences secluded among the lake and wooded areas provide old world charm along with spectacular views. No two homes of its 394 homes are exactly alike. Well known architects, Bruce Goff and Albert Yanda, designed two of these spectacular homes.

Lake Quivira - beauty and splendor of nature at its best, both the tended and the natural. The Quivira Garden Club was established in 1941, and today its members devote scores of hours beautifying the community with flowers, bushes, and trees. Partly due to their efforts, Lake Quivira has been designated "Tree City" by the Arbor Day Foundation for 21 years. It is a commitment to nature that Lake Quivira residents enjoy and protect.
